One of the great tourist activities in Krakow, Poland is the Carriage Ride. Beautifully decorated and pulling carriages fit for a princess this is a relaxing way to get an overview of the city.
For those who worry about the animals, I will say that they are well treated. There are a team of helpers situated in the Main Square, dedicated to making sure the horses have their much-needed water.
The carriage business, from what I can see is well regulated with plenty of rules to protect the animals. For example, on very warm days the horses must be held on shady side streets while they wait for fares. On very hot days the horses are not allowed on the street or must be removed if they are already out until the day cools.
There are ample watering stations in the center and along the routes the carriages take. Carriage driver can be seen brushing, petting and even whispering to their horses.
The carriages are fit for Cinderella, a family on vacation or wary photographers looking to give their legs a needed rest.
The under-carriages are illuminated in the evening. The cost is based on what section of the city you will tour.
...and there are also those beautiful carriage drivers.
